Public release of Orthosiphon stamineus sp. cultivation, generally known as Misai Kuching or Java tea is rare and hard to find unless you're bold enough to knock your local agriculture authority/research institute door.
However, there is public release of the cultivation method can be found in FAO site. Althought it's about organic farming documentation practice in Malaysia, there is herb section in the report that mentioned the fertilizer rate per ha.
Summary of the report, specifically for Orthosiphon stamineus sp.is as below:
-Fertilizer rate per ha applied using poultry manure is 30 tonne per ha. This will result in the production of fresh yield of 7.1 tonne per ha and 2.3 tonne per ha. Fertilizer is applied as basal based.
General propagation method:
-Propagation method is asexsual
-Misau Kucing or Cat's Whiskers so far can only being propagated through stem cutting method.
Cultivation Method:
-Basal fertilization is enough for Cat's Whiskers(I've done this myself using pultry manure in my backyard) .
-Maintenance during the whole cultivation period required only mulching at the rate of once per month.
-Cat's Whiskers distance of planting is 1' X 1' X 4'. See the attached image
 Cat Whiskers planting distance(Practiced in Balung Eco-Resort, Sabah) -So far, pest and insect do no pose serious treat to cultivation of this herb. No known specific pests or insects can be related to this plant/herb.
-Maturity period from days of transplant is estimated to be around 3 months.
Commercial viewpoint
-As guide for commercial farming of this herb and other herbaceous/leafy plant. You must accept that 70%-90% of the plant fresh yield is consist of water. Therefore it's safe to assume the final dry-weight is will be reduce to 10% from the original weight.
-There is report that dry-weight of Cat's Whiskers is sold at USD 800-1000 per packet of 10kg from Thailand. The estimated price for extraction of this herb is unknown.
-Currently demand for dry-weight in the form of powder is on the rise. This is driven by high demand from herbal tea manufacturer. Europe consumers already hailed herbal tea made from Cat's Whiskers herb as affective as or more effective in the medication of gall bladder disease specifically galllstones or Cholelithiasis compared to medical drug.
